Nebraska Cattle Group Studying Governor’s Property Tax Relief Proposal

This week, Nebraska Governor Pete Ricketts called for legislators to put an additional $51 million a year into the property tax credit fund. He also wants a Constitutional Amendment to cap property taxes at no more than 3 percent. Nebraska Cattlemen Association’s Vice President of Legislative Affairs Laura Field says her group is studying the Governor’s proposal but thinks it’s a good step in relieving property taxes.

She says they’re also looking at several other possibilities for property tax relief, but any measure must include a revenue offset.

Field says lawmakers need to be careful about how they craft property tax relief.

Governor Ricketts wants a total of $275 million included in the property tax credit fund and Field says that makes sense.
