Nebraska Cattle Group Sets Priorities

At last week’s convention Nebraska Cattlemen Association members elected a new President and set legislative priorities. The new President is Dave McCracken of Friend. He says one of their national priorities was achieved with the passage this week by Congress of the Omnibus Appropriations Bill. McCracken says a provision in that measure fixed mandatory country of origin labeling.
McCracken says at the state level, their major goal is property tax relief and they’re pleased Governor Elect Pete Ricketts has made that one of his priorities.
McCracken says part of the property tax discussion has to include a change in the school funding formula. He says it’s not an easy fix because a lot of the cash is flowing out of the smaller school districts into the larger ones. McCracken says that’s because of the high land prices.
