Tyson officials hope to complete the reconstruction of their Holcomb, Kansas meat processing plant and reopen in December following an August fire. Nebraska Cattlemen Association President Mike Drinnen says that Holcomb plant was an important one for the cattle industry as it processed about 6,000 head a day. He says the loss of that facility has negatively impacted the nation’s cattle producers.
He says once the Holcomb plant is back up in December and fully operating in January will be helpful.
Drinnen says other meat packing plants tried to pick up the processing when the Tyson, Kansas facility has been idled.
Following the August fire, the USDA began an investigation which is now on going looking at the market impacts when the Holcomb plant was idled.
