The WRDA bill passed Thursday by the U.S. Senate contained an important amendment offered by Nebraska Senator Deb Fischer. Nebraska Cattlemen’s Association President Barb Cooksley says her group appreciates the work of Senator Fischer in including the amendment to the EPA’s SPCC rule.
Fischer’s amendment also backed by Nebraska Senator Ben Sasse exempts up to 2,000 gallons of fuel storage capacity on remote parcels. Due to that, producers may keep 2500 gallons stored at a facility’s main base and an unlimited number of 1,000 gallon tanks at other locations. Cooksley says that’s critical for cattle producers.
Cooksley is hoping they’ll get the measure passed in the House and thinks they’ll get good support from Nebraska’s delegation there.
Cooksley says it’s important not only that the House now pass the measure but also get it conferenced with the Senate before the end of the year.
