Nebraska Senator Deb Fischer has been appointed Chair of the Subcommittee on Livestock, Marketing and Agriculture Security within the U.S. Senate Ag Committee. Nebraska Cattlemen Association’s Director of Legal and Regulatory Affairs Jessie Herrmann says having Fischer lead that subcommittee is important for the state’s ranchers.

She says the two major issues the subcommittee will have to deal with include helping craft the new farm bill and trade.

Herrmann says because Fischer has a ranching background that will help in educating other members on the subcommittee as well as other Senators about agriculture.

Other duties Fischer’s subcommittee will handle include domestic marketing programs, international commodity agreements and export controls, marketing orders and livestock inspection and certification of meat.
