Nebraska Senator Deb Fischer’s Livestock Hauling Act was included in the just passed House Transportation Bill. It gives regulatory flexibility for Transporters of live animals. Livestock Haulers are now granted 150 air miles radius from the origin and destination of their trip. Nebraska Cattlemen Association’s Director of Government Affairs Ashley Kohls says having that unloaded exemption of 150 miles air radius is just enough time to get cattle to market without unloading.
She says livestock haulers use some of the most tested and tried methods to deliver their product without having to pull over or hamper the health of the animals they’re transporting.
Kohls says the other provision in the infrastructure bill that helps livestock transporters is the funding to keep roads and bridges up to date and the safe route that provides for truck and semi traffic.
Kohls says Nebraska Cattlemen and many other Ag organizations continue to push for a permanent solution to ensure safe livestock hauling.
