Both of Nebraska’s candidates for Governor, Democrat Chuck Hassebrook and Republican Pete Ricketts favor property tax relief. The Nebraska Cattlemen’s Association’s Director of Legislative Affairs Laura Field says property tax relief continues to be their priority issue and a main objective of their members.
Both Ricketts and Hassebrook want to reduce ag land valuation from 75 percent to 65 percent of market value. Field says her group thinks that’s the most important component of property tax relief.
When it comes to taking money from the state’s cash reserve to fund property tax credits, Hassebrook opposes it while Ricketts supports it. Field says her group supports using the tax credit fund as long as the state continues to put money into it.
Ricketts wants property tax relief for ag and livestock producers, small business owners and working families. Hassebrook wants property tax relief for family farmers and ranchers and middle income taxpayers.
