The Nebraska Cattlemen Association filed comments with the U.S. House Agriculture Subcommittee on Livestock and Foreign Agriculture as they held a hearing looking at the State of the Beef Supply Chain. Association President Bill Rhea says one of their major concerns is the need for more cattle market processing capacity.
He says another problem that must be addressed is to find a solution to the ag labor shortage that’s negatively impacting the cattle industry.
Rhea says markets need to be transparent and competitive and more processing capacity must be added outside the present big four packers that have a monopoly on the industry.
Rhea says his group is backing Nebraska Senator Deb Fischer’s Cattle Market Transparency Act legislation.
