Nebraska Catholic Bishops Asking Voters to Uphold Repeal of the Death Penalty

The state’s three Catholic bishops are asking Nebraskans to vote to “retain” the repeal of the death penalty.
The Church is launching a statewide education effort this week to show capital punishment does not work.
Marietta Jaeger-Lane is speaking out against the death penalty, even though her daughter’s killer could have received the death penalty.

Jaeger-Lane says a life in prison without parole option convinced the suspected killer to confess to the crime.
She says the threat of the death penalty kept him from confessing to other murders he likely committed.
Joe D’Ambrosio (DEE-am-BROH-zhee-oh) says he lost 20 years of his life on death row, convicted of a crime he did not commit.

The forums are being held this week in Grand Island, Lincoln and Omaha.
