Sixty-six bridges in Nebraska will be repaired or replaced through the County Bridge Match Program this year.
State Bridge Engineer Mark Traynowicz says some bridges will be removed and not replaced.
He says repair, replacement, or removal decisions were made by the counties.
The match program funds 55 percent of eligible bridge construction cost with counties providing a 45 percent match.
Traynowicz says even though they’re starting off the program slowly, it’s having a big impact.
Most of the funding for the program comes from an increase in the gas tax approved in 2015.
