A state senator proposes Nebraska establish a paid family leave insurance program.
Senator Sue Crawford of Bellevue says that under her proposal, the state would create a program in which workers pay premiums and receive partial wage reimbursement when they take time off in accordance with provisions of the federal Family and Medical Leave Act. Businesses would be required to allow the worker to return. . .
Crawford says it is estimated that as much as 20-percent of eligible workers stay out of the workforce due to health and family issues. . .
Crawford says three states have created such a program.
