The November 1 deadline for beginning producers in Nebraska to apply for the Beginning Farmer Tax Credit is fast approaching. The Center for Rural Affairs is assisting those younger farmers and ranchers with applying for that aid that comes through the State Agriculture Department’s Next Gen Program. Nathan Beacom is Policy Associate with the Center for Rural Affairs.

He says that tax break with this program is significant given the high rate of property taxes currently in place in Nebraska.

Beacom says for the landowner the Beginning Farmer Tax Credit program includes a refundable tax credit equal to 10 percent of the cash rent or 15 percent of the value of the share-crop rent received.

Beacom says this program is a great opportunity for the landowner looking to transition to a younger farmer and to ensure that their land remains in responsible production.
