Nebraska leaders from six agricultural groups have joined forces to identify and focus on key issues needed to keep the state’s agriculture strong into the future. Nebraska Cattlemen’s Association President Barb Cooksley says they intend to meet with Governor Pete Ricketts this week to talk about the need for tax reform.

She says the ag groups have a lot in common and similar interests on issues but will remain autonomous in making decisions.

Cooksley says another issue they hope to talk to the Governor about is how to push back against federal regulatory overreach.

She says their coalition also wants to proactively educate and communicate with consumers. The groups also agreed that future efforts to enact Right to Farm protections should not be in the form of a constitutional amendment. The six groups are Nebraska Cattlemen’s Association, Pork Producers, Corn and Soybean Growers, Dairy Producers and Farm Bureau.
