The recently formed Nebraska Ag Leaders Working Group met this week with Governor Pete Ricketts to talk about several concerns facing agriculture. Working Group member and Farm Bureau President Steve Nelson says their top issue was taxes and primarily property taxes.
He says while overall tax reform was talked about, the key going forward is finding a way to correct the over reliance on property taxes.
Nelson says the Ag Leaders Working Group has also been talking with state Senators and the Governor about possible legislation that can come forward next session to address the tax problem.
He says they also spoke with the Governor about their opposition to any attempt to put a Right to Farm measure into the state constitution.
