Figures released by the Nebraska State Department of Revenue show ag land valuations have gone up over 19 % from 2014 to 2015. That, coupled with a 29 % increase from 2013 to 2014, shows a glaring need for property tax relief. Nebraska Cattlemen Association’s Legislative Director Laura Field says that highlights the need to keep working with State Senators to get that done this session.
Field says earlier attempts to lower the valuation from 75 % to 65 % failed, but they’re not giving up on moving that type of a fix forward. She says if they can get that valuation dropped to 65 %, it would be at least a good start toward real property tax relief and there’s still time in the session to achieve that.
Field says her group intends to also work with Governor Ricketts, who has made property tax relief a main priority.
