Nebraska Ag Groups Continuing To Push For Property Tax Relief

Nebraska Ag Groups Continuing To Push For Property Tax Relief

The Nebraska Legislature’s Revenue Committee has been busy sorting through income and property tax relief measures this week. State Farmers Union President John Hansen says agriculture groups have been united in seeking property tax relief and haven’t given up on that goal. He says the bill that most likely could come out of the Revenue Committee is LB 1084 sponsored by Senator Tom Briese.

Hansen says some Senators are holding onto providing income tax relief despite the glaring need for reducing property taxes.

He says Senator Briese is continuing to meet with the Revenue Committee chairman to find a way to advance his legislation. Hansen says farmers and ranchers desperately need that relief.

Hansen says Farmers Union along with other state ag groups are seeking three forms of remedy to the property tax issue. He says the one they prefer is through legislation but they’re also looking to the courts and getting a ballot issue approved that citizens could vote on in November.
