Thursday, Nebraska state lawmakers passed LB 1107, titled the Grand Compromise. The measure provides property tax relief for all Nebraskans. Nebraska Cattlemen Association’s Vice President of Legal and Government Affairs Jessica Herrmann says it’s a good initial step for the state’s farmers and ranchers.
Nebraska Farm Bureau President Steve Nelson calls the bill’s passage a big step for not only agriculture but for city and town residents as well.
Herrmann says there’s more work to do to follow up with the passage of 1107 including finding more funding to help pay for it as well as reform the entire tax structure in Nebraska.
Nelson agrees there’s more to do including finding better funding for the state’s schools as well as improving the state’s valuation system.
Herrmann says the Nebraska Cattlemen Association has already begun work for further property tax relief and reform to take to State Senators when they convene in January.
