The first of two measures to address property tax relief will be heard Thursday in the Nebraska Unicameral. Governor Pete Ricketts’ proposals are being carried by Senators Kate Sullivan and Mike Gloor. Sullivan says LB 958 will control spending growth and gives taxpayers a greater say in how taxes are levied.

Gloor says the legislation will help with limiting spending and cap ag land valuations at 3 percent annually.

Both the Nebraska Farm Bureau and Cattlemen’s Association support the bills. Farm Bureau President Steve Nelson says the property tax relief is badly needed.

The Senators say both LB 958 and LB 959 don’t reduce education spending.
