Nebraska state legislators have advanced a property tax relief measure that provides $20 million worth of property tax credits. State Farm Bureau Senior Economist Jay Rempe says if they can get the legislation approved it will ease some of the burden of rising property taxes on Nebraska’s farmers and ranchers.
Rempe says it will take time to fully solve the property tax dilemma. However, the advancement of the credit bill will at least help. He says over the past ten years property taxes in Nebraska have risen to such a dramatic level, they’re not sustainable.
He says the amount of school funding in Nebraska supported by property taxes is at a much higher level than most of the other states in the country.
Rempe expects State Senators to approve the property tax credit relief bill before this year’s session ends.
