The House passed a fiscal year 2019 agriculture appropriations bill that’s not backed by Senate or House Republican leadership. It’s part of an effort by House Democrats to end the partial government shutdown. Nebraska Farmers Union President John Hansen says the shutdown needs to end because it’s hurting agriculture.

He says it’s disappointing the President and Congress are playing politics over the border wall at the expense of agriculture.

Hansen says the administration has promised to fund SNAP payments in February, but there’s no plan for the program after that.

Hansen says the partial government shutdown is also slowing down the implementation of the new farm bill.
