Nebraska Farmers Union members are opposed to legislation that would allow voters to decide whether or not the current right to farm and ranch law should be put into the state constitution. That measure was heard in the Nebraska Unicameral Agriculture Committee this week. State Farmers Union President John Hansen says the proposed legislation has many unintended consequences.

He says if this measure is passed it would make it difficult to put in needed environmental protections and strip other needed protections for agriculture.

Hansen says the proposed legislation is too broad and radical in scope.

Hansen says for the measure to pass it needs three fifths of Nebraska’s State Senators to vote for it.
