Nebraska Cattlemen Directors have designated 4 priority bills for the Unicameral. Cattlemen’s Legislative Director Laura Field says one calls for a constitutional amendment to guarantee the right to engage in certain farming and ranching practices.

Field says that will be heard in the Ag Committee next month and will need at least 30 votes before the full legislature to put that measure to a vote of the people in the fall. She says this came about due to past pressure from activist groups.

They’re also supporting LB 977 which changes provisions related to implements of husbandry on state highways.  It establishes a more descriptive definition of farm equipment that is exempt from weight and load limits.

The final priorities include property tax relief and supporting the Governor’s plan to cap the increase on ag valuations to 3-percent a year.
