The Nebraska Cattlemen’s Association is pleased with Governor Pete Rickett’s plan to limit the taxable value of agricultural land to 3-percent a year. Cattlemen’s Legislative Director Laura Field says if the Governor’s proposal is approved it will lead to much needed property tax relief.
She’s hoping State Senators will approve the proposal but admits there is some concern regarding other needed tax reform and the current budget shortfall.
Field says one good aspect of the Governor’s proposal is that it’s phased in.
Field expects this plan to lead to a lot of discussion by lawmakers about how it impacts local governments and schools, plus how it effects the bottom line of the state budget.
