White House Economic Trade Advisor Kevin Hassett says the United States is getting very close to moving ahead on a trade deal with Mexico and without Canada. Talks broke off this weekend between the U.S. and Canada without an agreement. Earlier the U.S. forged a deal with Mexico. Not having Canada in the pact is concerning for Nebraska’s cattle producers according to Pete McClymont, Executive Vice President of the Nebraska Cattlemen Association.

He says beef exports are up over a year ago and the goal is to keep sales at that level or higher. McClymont says because of that they’re hoping negotiators forge a complete three country remake of NAFTA.

McClymont says Nebraska is in a great position logistically to trade effectively with the Canadians.

McClymont says time is running out for a three country NAFTA as the deadline to publish a text of an agreement to update the deal is October 1.
