A bill that would level the weight limits on farm equipment and vehicles on Nebraska roadways is headed to final reading in the Unicameral. State Farm Bureau Senior Economist Jay Rempe says the legislation will make the rules clearer on road weight limits for agricultural vehicles and bring Nebraska in step with other states.

He says LB 977 is a priority for both Nebraska Farm Bureau and the State Cattlemen’s Association and something the groups have lobbying for.

Rempe says farm equipment has changed over the years and the state law needed updating to make it more workable.

The measure passed second reading this week and Rempe expects Senators to approve it before the end of the session.
