Penn State assistant Maren (MAHR’-ehn) Walseth is the new head women’s basketball coach at North Dakota State University.

NDSU named Walseth to replace Carolyn DeHoff, who resigned after six seasons.

Walseth has been at Penn State the past seven seasons, helping lead the Lady Lions to three Big Ten championships, four NCAA tournament appearances and two NCAA Sweet 16 appearances. Before that, the Bloomington, Minn., native spent three years as an assistant at the U.S. Naval Academy

Walseth played at Penn State from 1997-2002, then spent four years playing professionally, including time in the WNBA.

Walseth’s sister, Annika, played for NDSU during the 2007-08 season.
