The 2019 North Dakota Legislative session is now in the books. Pete Hanebutt, Public Policy Director for the North Dakota Farm Bureau says they scored several wins. One was known as the second cousins bill which passed and now allows second cousins to be allowed to operate in a corporate farming operation.
Farm Bureau Public Policy Liason Emmery Mehlhaff says they were also pleased with preservation of the farm home tax exemption after efforts to throw it out.
Hanebutt says they also supported passage of a county livestock zoning bill which will likely lead to more development of animal agriculture operations in the state.
Hanebutt says North Dakota one of the top soybean producers, actually lags behind Vermont when it comes to feeding soybeans to livestock.
