The North Dakota Agriculture Department has modified its dicamba application regulations. They’re no longer requiring farmers or those applying dicamba to first notify the agency before spraying. The change was requested by the North Dakota Farm Bureau. President Darryl Lies says having to report each time the product was used was burdensome.
He says the reporting requirement was lifted following his group’s meeting with State Ag Commissioner Doug Goehring.
The Ag Department is maintaining its cut off restriction for spraying dicamba. It’s not allowed after June 30 or R1, which is the crop’s first bloom phase, whichever comes first. Lies says that’s a reasonable requirement.
Goehring says he decided to take out the reporting requirement because application information is available through federal record keeping rules and he doesn’t want a state requirement that’s a burden.
