The National Corn Grower’s Association has submitted formal comments to the Environmental Protection Agency to ensure future access and continued success with the use of B.T. technology. Texas farmer Chad Wetzel Chairs NCGA’s Production Technology Access Action team. He says in their comments they expressed concern at the EPA proposing phasing out certain BT pyramids nationwide.
He says B..T. technology has been available for several years and been proven to be safe and effective in helping farmers control pests and weeds while enhancing economic returns for producers.
Wetzel says NCGA looks forward to working with the new administration and whoever takes over as head of the EPA on making sure they can retain those technological tools needed by producers.
Wetzel says if EPA were to phase out a lot of those BT technologies it would seriously limit grower seed selection and drastically increase the use of a select few BT products which would increase the risk of resistance development for those traits.
