A California Appeals Court has sided with the state of California in affirming that Monsanto’s glyphosate pesticide be listed under Proposition 65. That state regulation requires notification and labeling of all chemicals known to cause cancer, birth defects, or other types of reproductive harm. National Corn Growers Board member and South Dakota farmer Keith Alverson is disappointed with the ruling. He says Prop 65 is not science based.

He says one of the major concerns is that the Appeals Court decision may set a precedent for other states to allow the listing of glyphosate.

Alverson says the ag groups that challenged Prop 65 are considering their next step.

Proponents of Prop 65 argued in court that the public had a right to know when it’s being exposed to cancer causing chemicals.
