The boards of South Dakota Wheat Growers and North Central Farmers Elevator have decided to hold a second merger vote. Wheat Growers Board President Hal Clemensen says several factors led to this decision, including the depressed farm economy and the desire of the members to revote.

He says both co-ops can benefit from merging.

Clemensen says both cooperatives face stiff multinational company competition.

South Dakota Wheat Growers and North Central Farmers Elevator are holding a series of 20 informational meetings for their members this week and next. Ballots go out August 29 ballots and members can vote by mail through September 28. For more information go to each co-op’s websites.
