NCFC Wants Biotech Labeling Bill Passed In Congress

One of the outstanding issues for reaching compromise on a national biotech labeling bill has to do with on pack labels. National Council of Farmer Cooperatives President Chuck Connor is calling on Senate Ag Leadership to resolve the differences and put forth a national piece of legislation that doesn’t include those front of the package labels that would mislead consumers.

He’s says there are better ways to inform consumers than using on pack labels and he says Senators need to get to work and get this legislation passed before Friday’s deadline.

Connor says it doesn’t make sense for one state to dictate to the whole country how labeling should be handled.

He says both Houses of Congress need to get busy and get the federal legislation passed to keep the Vermont state law which goes into effect July 1 from impacting the whole country.
