President Obama has signed the Biotech Labeling legislation creating a national standard for foods made from genetically modified ingredients. The measure pre empts all state laws including the one that was approved in Vermont. National Council of Farmer Cooperatives President Chuck Connor says the bill signed by the President is a big win for American Agriculture.
He says the next step will be implementation of the bill which won’t be a simple process.
Connor says had the measure been vetoed it will would have been costly for the entire U.S. economy.
The Biotech legislation does not require a label for food coming from livestock like beef, milk, pork, poultry or eggs.
