The National Cattlemen’s Beef Association’s executive committee has approved efforts to work with the U.S. Department of Agriculture to address geographic origin statements. NCBA Senior Vice President of Government Relations Ethan Lane says they’re looking at beef origin labels that are voluntary in nature. He says they’re against the Beef Integrity Act bill that calls for a Product of the USA Label.

He says there are ways to ensure beef origin labels are put in place that don’t elicit retaliation from our trading partners.

Lane says beef labels with voluntary country of origin labeling marketing claims should be verified through existing USDA framework that is market based and respects international trade commitments.

Lane says its critical consumers aren’t confused by beef labels.
