National Cattlemen’s Beef Association officials have been meeting with the Trump administration to urge movement on trade agreements and market access issues. Vice President of Government Affairs Colin Woodall says he’s hoping President Trump will address trade when he meets with China’s President this week in Florida.
He says President Xi Jinping’s visit is a prime opportunity to show the Chinese how the U.S. can provide China with superior food products.
Woodall is also hoping the full Senate confirms Sonny Perdue as Ag Secretary soon so he can help push for beef market access into China as well as other trade deals.
Woodall says it’s important to get the Chinese market open to U.S. beef. It has been closed to U.S. exports since 2003, when BSE was discovered in a dairy cow in Washington State.
