President Trump is proposing to cut the Environmental Protection Agency’s budget by 31 percent by eliminating a fifth of its workforce and eliminating more than 50 programs. The plan would drop the EPA budget from $8.1 billion to $5.7 billion. National Cattlemen’s Beef Association Vice President of Government Affairs Colin Woodall says he’s pleased to see the agency’s funding and workforce cut because they’ve been influenced in the past by anti-agriculture activists.
The President’s proposal would cut 3200 EPA positions or more than 20 percent of the agency’s current workforce of about 15,000. Woodall says cutting their staff would help the EPA focus more on science based decisions.
If the President’s proposal is adopted, then funding for the Clean Power Plan would be eliminated which NCBA has opposed. Plus, funding for the Chesapeake Bay cleanup project would also be cut.
