The National Cattlemen’s Beef Association summer business meeting just concluded in Denver. It resulted in two major items of discussion, including the results of the Beef Quality Audit and disease traceability. NCBA President and Nebraska producer Craig Uden says the audit shows beef quality has improved.
He says one area they hope to work on as an industry is carcass size.
Uden says on disease traceability they’re working with other ag groups to ask Congress to fund a Foot and Mouth Disease vaccine bank so the industry is prepared in the event of an outbreak.
Uden says another area of concern for cattle producers is trade. He says their priorities are finalizing a workable modernization of NAFTA for agriculture and getting a bilateral agreement with Japan approved.
