NCBA Standing Firm On Tariff Elimination

Reports are that Japan is considering cutting U.S. beef import tariffs to less than 10 percent from 38.5 percent as part of the Trans Pacific Partnership.  The National Cattlemen’s Beef Association however is still insisting they bring their tariffs to zero for any type of agreement to go through. NCBA Vice President of Government Affairs Colin Woodall says they’re standing firm on that issue.

Woodall says his group is sending that message with President Obama as he goes to meet with Japan’s Prime Minister on April 23.

The reported less than 10 percent tariff proposal by Japan is a bigger cut than the one they negotiated recently in their bi lateral deal with Australia.
