NCBA Reacts to Partial Government Shutdown

The political wrangling that has led to the partial shutdown of the federal government has many in the cattle industry concerned. National Cattlemen’s Beef Association Senior Vice President of Government Affairs Colin Woodall says the biggest problem is the uncertainty it creates.

He says its imperative the President is able to work with the new Congress coming in so agricultural and other issues can get resolved.

Woodall says both Congress and the President must be able to come together on NCBA’s number one trade priority and that’s getting the USMCA ratified.

Woodall says with the partial government shutdown at least Mandatory Price Reporting will continue, as well as inspection of beef slaughtering plants. However, he says it doesn’t bode well for getting needed legislation over the finish line.
