During an election year it’s difficult to get much passed in Congress. With that likelihood, National Cattlemen’s Beef Association Vice President of Government Affairs Colin Woodall says once lawmakers return from their August break they’ll work on a continuing resolution to keep the government operating. He says then the next possibility for real legislative action is during the lame duck. Woodall is hoping Congress then takes up an omnibus appropriations bill, pushes back against WOTUS and approves the TPP.
He says the only real chance for getting Congressional approval of the Trans Pacific Partnership is during the lame duck session.
Woodall says the cattle industry is losing several thousands of dollars a day while TPP sits idle. He says that’s a message they’re hoping to get through to lawmakers to get them to move on the deal.
Neither of the two Presidential candidates have been supportive of TPP and there is opposition in both parties in Congress for the agreement despite the President pushing heavily for it.
