NCBA Pushing Congress To Approve TPP

Speaking this week at the Global food forum in New York, Chief U.S. Ag Trade Negotiator Darci Vetter said U.S. farmers would get significant and unprecedented benefits from the Trans Pacific Partnership. The National Cattlemen’s Beef Association says they’ll be pushing hard for passage of that agreement when the Lame Duck session of Congress convenes. NCBA Vice President of Government Affairs Colin Woodall says they’ll be pressing lawmakers during the Congressional recess.

He says with the current status of cattle prices that amount of loss without TPP becomes even more significant.

Woodall says with 11 other countries involved in the trade agreement, that market access is critical.

Vetter remains optimistic the Lame Duck Congress will approve the pact but says without it U.S. ag producers will be at a competitive disadvantage as other countries pursue bilateral trade deals.
