This week, Canada reached an agreement to sign the Trans Pacific Partnership trade agreement now known as the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans Pacific Partnership. Earlier the U.S. pulled out of TPP. National Cattlemen’s Beef Association President and Nebraska rancher Craig Uden says that is concerning because U.S. agriculture is now left out from gaining major trade benefits.
He says tariffs on U.S. product into Japan just rose and the new TPP will let those involved in that deal see reduced tariffs.
Uden says another trade focus is to make sure there’s progress made in achieving a positive renegotiation of the North American Free Trade Agreement.
Without being a part of the new TPP or having a bilateral pact with Japan, the renegotiation of NAFTA may take on added importance.
