Argentina has offered to lift its longstanding ban on U.S. beef. That offer comes as negotiators from both countries are looking for ways to bring down trade barriers. National Cattlemen’s Beef Association President Kevin Kester says that’s very good news and it fits with the conversations he’s had with Argentinian officials.

He says once that barrier is removed, then U.S. cattle producers will benefit from the deal.

Kester says he’s also encouraged that U.S. negotiators are working to get the Japanese market fully open to American beef, although that may take some time.

Kester says he also remains hopeful the U.S. will come to a successful deal with the NAFTA discussions and get Canada brought into that pact.
