Late last week the U.S. Department of Transportation held a listening session in Washington D.C. on hours of service and electronic logging device rules they’re putting together. National Cattlemen’s Beef Association President Kevin Kester shared livestock haulers concerns with the proposed rules being considered.

He says livestock haulers need flexibility with whatever regulation is implemented.

Kester says besides weighing in with DOT on the proposed rule, they’re also working on legislation that would support livestock haulers and their needs.

Kester told the DOT administrator that the current hours of service framework is incompatible with the realities for livestock hauling. He says livestock haulers are currently exempt from implementing electronic logging devices until December 7 of 2018.
