National Cattlemen Beef Association officials are pleased with last week’s Senate passage of the national biotech labeling legislation. NCBA Vice President of Government Affairs Colin Woodall says it has some important exemptions for meat and milk produced from livestock fed biotech feed.
Woodall says the Senate labeling measure will also bring cost savings to consumers and preempts any state law, such as the one that went into effect in Vermont on July 1.
He says they’d like to see the House adopt the Senate measure even though it’s a mandatory program.
Woodall is hoping the House acts quickly this week on the biotech labeling issue.
