The National Cattlemen’s Beef Association is hailing the introduction in Congress of the Responsible and Efficient Agriculture Destination Legislation. NCBA’s Senior Vice President of Government Affairs Ethan Lane says it provides for flexible and common sense regulations relating to hours of service rules for livestock haulers. He says his group has been working with Congress, the Administration and the Department of Transportation for this bill.

He says they’re continuing to work for bipartisan backing for this measure as the process moves forward.

Lane says they need to educate urban members of Congress that livestock haulers can’t just stop when they’re delivering to the slaughter plants because of rigorous and unworkable regulations.

The legislation also clarifies that the Hours of Service exemption would apply in every state on a year round basis because livestock moves across the country every day.
