Wednesday, the U.S. Senate confirmed the appointment of Katherin Tai as U.S. Trade Representative. Several ag groups are pleased with the approval including the National Cattlemen’s Beef Association. NCBA President Elect and Minnesota cattle producer Don Schiefelbein says Tai fits in well with his group’s trade goals and they’re looking forward to working with her.
He says one concern NCBA wants Tai to help them with is some trade disruptions with Japan given their quota system within the bilateral agreement.
Schiefelbein says they’re anxious to see who Tai chooses to fill the position of U.S. Ag Trade Negotiator.
Schiefelbein also says that Tai will be quite helpful in dealing with China as she has a lot of experience with that country. He also says there are many other items on her plate including solidifying the U.S. Mexico Canada agreement and working out possible trade pacts with the United Kingdom and European Union.
