There’s been little from the Biden administration about their trade plans or the prospect of renewing Trade Promotion Authority. However, Ag Secretary Tom Vilsack made clear the administration will seek its renewal. National Cattlemen’s Beef Association’s Vice President of Government Affairs Ethan Lane says having TPA in place is important for America’s cattle producers.

He says getting the two parties in Congress to agree can be a bit of a challenge lately however trade issues usually are an area where both sides can agree.

Lane says having TPA in place is critical especially if the U.S. decides to work to enter the Comprehensive Trans Pacific Partnership Trade agreement.. He says Japan and the other countries in that deal are important trading partners.

Under TPA, an administration can negotiate trade deals and present them to Congress for an up or down vote with no amendments.
