The Trump administration is reaching out to China for a new high level round of trade talks. That’s encouraging according to Kent Bacus, Director of International Trade for the National Cattlemen’s Beef Association.
He says the President is using the right approach in dealing with China by holding their feet to the fire on following free trade rules.
Bacus says it’s been difficult for U.S. producers to experience the brunt of trade retaliation but it’s also critical the administration push China to lift its non tariff trade barriers.
He says the U.S. just got back in the Chinese market for American beef last July but has only limited access. Bacus says China has banned the use of widely and scientifically accepted products hormone beef and beta agonists.
