North American Free Trade Agreement discussions are continuing this week in Washington. Time is running short on getting a deal done as Mexico’s election is set for July first, a hurdle in the talks negotiators have been trying to avoid. National Cattlemen’s Beef Association Vice President of Government Affairs Colin Woodall is optimistic however they’ll get those talks completed and an agreement finalized.
He says the deal negotiators are talking about appears to contain positive components for cattle producers.
Mexico’s Economy Minister predicted there was a 40 percent chance all sides could reach an agreement before their election. The NAFTA talks remain focused on the automotive sector, although other barriers remain for all sides to reach a deal.
